Cape Town all lit up for the festive season!
The Cape Town festive street lights were switched on this week with much fanfare and hype. A huge street party was held and the event was coordinated with the official inauguration of Table Mountain as a New Natural Wonder. The mountain is an integral part of the city so it was fitting to combine the two occasions.
Many Capetonians make an evening trek into the CBD at this time of year to see the lights and there have been some disappointing results in the past. Not so this year. Festive lights in a country as culturally diverse as South Africa need to reflect more than just Christmas trees and wild animals and this has been perfectly achieved this year. The only aspect which is always disappointing is that the lights are limited to only a section of Adderley Street – we would like to see the festivity displayed throughout the entire city!
Here are a few photos – forgive us for the poor quality, night scenes are not our big strength!
